Bus Snow Routes

There are several places to find out if school has been cancelled due to inclement weather.  The local TV stations should display this information.  KCTV5, KMBC-TV9, FOX4- WDAF-TV and KSHB-TV on channel 41 are all included, as well as their affiliates.  That means the following channels should have school closing information: 4, 5, 9, 38, and 41.  There are also several radio stations that announce school closings, including KDKD Radio (95.3 FM, 1280 AM, and 104.9 FM) and KMOE (92 FM).  Other FM radio stations to check are 99.7, 98.9, 96.5, 98.1, 89.3 and 106.5.  Other AM stations are 980, 1660, and 710.

School closing announcements will also be on is our school web site, www.ballardr2.net and the school Facebook page Ballard R-II School District.  If you are included in the @BR2School Remind account, you will get a text notification that school is closed or that we will be on snow bus routes, whichever the case may be.

Regarding snow bus routes...there may be times when the condition of paved roads is much better than that of our local county roads.  In those instances we may run the buses on snow routes to avoid missing additional school days.  Snow routes will only be utilized if we notifiy you specifically, using the notification methods listed above.  Snow route listings have been sent home with students.  The times that are listed on the snow bus routes are approximate.  Please have you child ready a few minutes earlier on those days.  Of course when we have normal bus routes and have some snow or ice on the ground the buses may be a little late as well.  If we discover that we can travel down some of the gravel roads during inclement weather, we will make adjustments to the route.  You will be notified of this as well.

You can use the following links to access these lists:

Please keep in mind that whether school is cancelled or not, there are always disagreements on the decision.  Our philosophy on school closings due to weather is quite simple:  when in doubt, err on the side of safety, which means cancel.  The last thing we want is to risk the safety of the students or staff members here at Ballard.  If you have any questions or concerns about this information, please feel free to contact the school at 816-297-2656.
