Veteran's Day 2017

On Friday, November 10, the Ballard school hosted their Veterans Day assembly. To start off our festivities, our principal, Mr. Hon, welcomed the veterans. The boy scouts presented the flag as we all stood and said the Pledge of Allegiance. While we stood, the Ballard staff and student choir sang the national anthem. Mr. Hon introduced the veterans and Andrew Hon read a piece titled Armistice Day.

Mrs. Lybarger lead the kindergarten through third grade in a song and then the whole elementary stood and sang On Veterans Day. The forth, fifth, and six graders stood in front of everyone and performed the song “Fifty Nifty United States,” led by Mrs. Moore. Jack Rotert and Kelsie Karo presented a PowerPoint presentation on how to respect the flag. They told us how a flag should be retired, how it should be folded, and other useful information.

Mr. Hon introduced our veteran guest speaker: Nicole Schmitt. Kelsie Karo, Madelyne Murray, and Colton Page presented a poem called “They Did Their Share”, Amanda Teagarden and Jailynn Wheeler did “Veterans Day”. Camryn East and Savana Allen also presented a separate poem “Thank You For Your Sacrifice.” Mr. Hon closed the program and the veterans were invited to the cafeteria for the reception where the students, staff, and family could visit.

The Veterans Day Committee would like to thank all the  Ballard staff and students who worked hard to put together a program that was not only enjoyable, but that would honor our local veterans.  We would like to thank Nicole Schmitt for accepting our invitation to be guest speaker.  Once again, the Veterans Day program was an outstanding success.
